What is Committee?

Each local area has a committee of adults who believes in the mission of Young Life: to introduce adolescents to Jesus Christ and to help them grow in their faith. You'll find adults from all different backgrounds, careers and churches, including lots of moms and dads who care about kids.

The committee, comprised of parents, Young Life alumni and civic leaders, provides a foundation of financial, administrative and moral support for the local Young Life team.

Ask your area staff person for a local list, and feel free to call these folks with your questions at any time.

Craig & Aledra Hollenbach    Craig and Aledra have lived in Hamilton for over twenty years. Craig grew up in Pennsylvania and works for Northrup Grumman as a software process engineer. Aledra grew up in Texas and splits her time between teaching art to homeschoolers and her thriving painting hobby (canvases, not houses). Shortly after they got married, they left careers as schoolteachers to serve God with Campus Crusade in Fairfax for a couple years. The Hollenbachs have two grown children: Haley, a graphic artist in Richmond; and Nathan, a part time teacher and cross country coach at LVHS. Craig is currently committee chair for Western Loudoun YL, and Aledra does a lot of everything for YL.

Debbie Kalriess  Debbie is a native Washingtonian, growing up in Prince Georges County, as well as above her grandfather's corner market in downtown D.C., and later on in Montgomery County. She graduated from Montgomery Blair High School, married Ted, her husband of 30+ years. Debbie has four children, began as a volunteer Wyld Life leader when her now 20 yr old son was in middle school. The beach is where Debbie wishes she could spend all her time. She enjoys dance, photography, vacations with the family, and being a leader with WyldLife.

An Essential Foundation

Committee is the foundation for Young Life in a local area. Oftentimes, new Young Life clubs start because of the interest and awareness created by the committee. We also welcome the involvement of adult Young Life alumni, whose enthusiasm about their Young Life experiences is valuable to a committee.

In Western Loudoun we have two different levels of involvement for adults. First, there is the Western Loudoun Young Life Committee, which fits the description above.  The committee meets once per month with all of the Young Life staff in the County. During these meetings they hear reports from the staff about how ministry is going in the area. The committee also spends some time on events such as the Young Life Golf Tournament or the Annual Young Life Banquet. Beyond these meetings, committee members also assist the staff with strategic planning, budgeting and other administrative tasks.

The second tier of involvement is what we call Senders Teams. We currently have an active group formed for the Purcellville community, are looking to start one in Leesburg. Ideally we would to surround the individual high schools and middle schools in the area with teams who are focused primarily on the ministry in their own community. Senders Teams meet a couple times per semester with the Young Life staff and volunteer leaders and spend time praying for the ministry, planning out practical ways to support local events with kids, and orchestrating local community involvement in County-wide events planned by the Young Life Committee. They also play an intergral role in supporting our teams of volunteer leaders. Each Senders Team will have at least one member that represents them on the Western Loudoun Young Life Committee.

How Do I Get Involved?

We are always looking for adults in the community who value the work we do with kids and are willing to invest some of their own time and energy to help us in this mission.
